12th Dussmann Music Competition: High artistic Level and Record Number of Participants

20.10.2023 – For the 12th time, members of the Staatsoper Unter den Linden under the direction of Matthias Glander selected the prize winners of the Dussmann Music Competition for the Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Musikgymnasium. At this year's prize winners' concert, twelve soloists and a chamber music ensemble performed demanding pieces on the KulturBühne of Dussmann das KulturKaufhaus: from Mozart's Violin Concerto No. 3 to the Abegg Variations for piano with their fast runs to the sonorous "Davidsbündlertänze", both by Robert Schumann.

The competition is instrument- and grade-wide. New this year were three special prizes awarded by a junior jury of students from the Musikgymnasium: for "best musical interplay," "best musical personality" and "best interpretation."

Catherine von Fürstenberg-Dussmann, Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees of Dussmann Group, thanked the jury, which takes a lot of time each year to listen to and evaluate all the competition entries: "This time we have set a record with 37 entries! It is wonderful to see how the Dussmann Music Competition is growing within the school. It is proof of the excellent quality of education at the Musikgymnasium." Catherine von Fürstenberg-Dussmann, referring to the pain and anxiety of living between two wars quoted “music can be like moonlight in the dark days of life”.

The Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Musikgymnasium

The Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach Musikgymnasium is a special offer to children and young people all over the world with the aim of preparing musically gifted pupils in good time and thoroughly for musical studies - and has been doing so very successfully for more than 70 years.
